BackgroundThe Accounts Commission held a two-day public hearing on the running of Aberdeen City Council at the Town House (Town and County Hall) on the 13th and 14th May 2008.
This followed a report by the Controller of Audit on Best Value and Community Planning in Aberdeen, which found serious cause for concern. The hearing was open to all, on a first come, first served basis. The Commission considered any correspondence received in connection with the hearing, with a focus on the Best Value and Community Planning audit. In particular, the Commission wished to explore (in their words):
- the pace of improvement in achieving the council’s vision for the area
- the capacity of the council to secure change
- why staff commitment to the programme of change does not seem to have been achieved
- the council’s financial position
