Let Everyone Play!

Our Kids Too (OK2) is founded on the belief that all children should be able to play together.  For many special needs children, it is simply not possible to play with other children using conventional play equipment. However, given the right equipment, special needs children can muck in with the rest!

OK2

Working closely with Aberdeen City Council, we aim to assist Aberdeen Schools and Parks to provide the necessary equipment for special needs and disabled children to play alongside the able-bodied.

We desperately need funds to help us realise our vision.

Projects past and present include:

Providing wheelchair bicycles, roundabouts and buddy swings for Duthie, Hazlehead and Westburn parks. A duet wheelchair bicycle costs £3,150, buddy swings retail at around £5,000 and a wheelchair roundabout £10,000.

We have already purchased a wheelchair bike for Duthie Park. Aberdeen City Council matched this donation so that two bikes would be available for use. The Duet bikes are now available in Duthie Park (the key is kept at the garden shop beside the restaurant).  There is no hoist at present but that will be bought soon.  People need to bring a bike helmet for carer as well as child as these are not provided.

We now have two wheelchair bikes at Hazlehead Park.  Negotiations are underway with the parks department to house and secure the bikes. They should be available for public use in Spring 2008.

Cults Primary School Success!!!

Our project to install disabled-friendly playground equipment at Cults Primary School is now complete.  To view the results click the link: Cults Primary School.

We had already successfully installed an £18,000 multi-sensory room at the school.

The future success of these and other projects depends on you!

FANTASTIC SUCCESS!

Our Kids Too 2008 Art Auction, 16th March

OK2 Art Auction 2008

Art lovers flocked to the Marcliffe at Pitfodels to view the many fabulous paintings that were on display in the Our Kids Too 2008 Art Auction. An extra section this year included 'Celebrity Doodles' from the likes of Stefan Dennis and Buff Hardie to golfers Paul Broadhurst and Stephen Gallacher.

A fabulous £13,974 was raised. (Nearly £3000 up on last year.)

Many thanks to the artists, donors and helpers for making this another great event.

Audrey McLean from Our Kids Too won the Charity Champion of the year at the recent Evening Express Champions’ Award at AECC. She was a very well-deserved winner.

Our project for Cults Primary School is now completed and cost around £35,000 with Our Kids Too providing around half of the total sum. The special needs’ playground unit is wheelchair-accessible and so all the children at the school can play on it.

We are now helping Camphill with playground equipment and completing negotiations with the Council to put in a wheelchair roundabout and basket swing at Duthie Park.
