WHY ANOTHER MENTAL HEALTH GROUP IN ABERDEEN CITY? AREN'T THERE ENOUGH ALREADY?

There are many organisations/groups in Aberdeen City providing support to people with mental health difficulties and their carers.  One of the purposes of the AMHRG is to bring together people from all these groups and organisations to share information and experiences about their various activities, to discuss matters of common interest, to identify unmet needs, and to learn about best practice from other service provision locally and nationally. We aim to look beyond the "labels" attached to mental health and to those of us suffering mental illness, and seek to develop services that meet the diverse needs of people as individuals and help to change public attitudes and dispel stigma and  discrimination.

The Aberdeen Mental Health Reference Group are recognised as a consultation avenue by Aberdeen City Council and the Scottish Executive.  The group are actively involved in Lobbying & Campaigning  on the following issues:

  • Mental Illness Specific Grant (MISG)
  • Prescription Charges
  • Patients Council/Collective Advocacy
  • Resource Transfer Funding
  • Cornhill Hospital Developments

The AMHRG are represented on the following groups:
