Playday 2012

Playday in Scotland - Play on the Longest Day – Thursday 21 June 2012 – Come out and play!

In 2011, Play Scotland launched Play on the Longest Day, which will be held on 21 June. This will enable more schools, nurseries and childcare settings in Scotland to get in involved in Playday activities.

Who can organise a Playday event?

Anyone can organise a Playday event. Big or small, there are lots of different ways to celebrate Playday. Whether it's a large community-wide event or a get-together with friends and family - find the way that suits you!

Playday events are often organised by play associations, local authorities, holiday playschemes, schools, children's centres, nurseries, preschool playgroups, residents' associations, community development workers, childminders, or simply someone who lives in locally and wants to give children and young people a special opportunity to play for the day.

To help you plan your Playday in Scotland you can download a copy of our Planning your Playday in Scotland guide http://www.playscotland.org/assets/Playday-in-Scotland-Organisers-Guide.pdf

Aberdeen Play Forum would also like to support you by providing you a pack with stickers, ideas for activities and a certificate of participation. In turn we would love to hear how your Playday has gone.

What is free play and why do children need this?

This is a practical workshop aimed at after-school workers and parents. It explores the ideas and research behind free play and how we can facilitate this either at home or in an after-school setting.

It's a great chance to pick up lots of low cost ideas for keeping children happily occupied for hours, inside and out in all weathers and seasons. Please come dressed for practical work which may include a short session outside.

Monday 21st November 2011

9.30am—12.00pm

Speaker: Juliet Robertson is an outdoor learning consultant who set up Creative STAR Learning Company, a social enterprise that supports people, groups and organisations to get children outside at a local and national level.
