RESPECT

RESPECT NORTH EAST

The aim of the RESPECT Project is to raise the profile and understanding of community capacity building in Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire. Our definition of community capacity building is "working with people in their communities to improve knowledge, skills, confidence, networks and resources to tackle issues and grasp opportunities", the Project is managed by a small steering group on behalf of Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Lifelong Learning Forums and is funded by Learning Connections until March 2008.

The project had 3 stages, described in the diagram below. The Stage 1 eventwas held very successfully at the end of April 2007 and involved over 50 members of community groups and community learning and development staff from across Aberdeen city and Aberdeenshire.

The Project Has 3 Stages

Stage 2 included:

  • a more detailed outline of the Project
  • ideas about how to best record and present your community
  • capacity building work and experience
  • opportunities to meet and learn from other projects and workers
  • across the city and shire
  • an invitation to a celebratory event in early 2008
  • funding to enable participants to meet, work on recording their experience and develop relationships with similar projects.

Stage 3 resulted in the launch of the published case studies and a launch event on the 7th June 2008.
