Haste Ye Back . . . tae Aberdeen City and Shire!

Visitors to Aberdeen City and Shire during Homecoming 2009 will be able to take home a special souvenir of their time in the area with the launch of a commemorative guide this month.
'Haste Ye Back . . . tae Aberdeen City and Shire' is a 24-page, full colour publication highlighting the wide range of activities taking place across the area during 2009.
The guide also carries features on local clans and the five core themes of Homecoming 2009: Robert Burns, Ancestral Roots, Great Scottish Minds and Innovation, Golf and Whisky.
'Haste Ye Back' was formally launched at a ceremony hosted by Aberdeenshire Provost Bill Howatson at the historic Haddo House, Methlick, on Monday, April 27.
Proceeds from the sale of the guide, which retails for just £1, will be split between two charities.
Provost Howatson is supporting CLIC Sargent (caring for children with cancer), while the Lord Provost of Aberdeen, Peter Stephen, is supporting Home Start Aberdeen (support and friendship for families).
Provost Howatson said: "Individuals, communities and groups across Aberdeen City and Shire have put together an inspiring collection of activities taking place across the area during 2009.
"Haste Ye Back reflects the strong sense of identity in this area and we hope it will inspire many return visits in future years."
Lord Provost of Aberdeen Peter Stephen said: "Homecoming Scotland 2009 is a really exciting time for the country and it gives us a fantastic, unmissable opportunity to show off the best of everything that we have to offer to Scots and visitors alike.
"Haste Ye Back is a wonderful guide which I'm sure will be treasured by many for years to come as a memento of the wonderful time they had in Aberdeen City and Shire during this year of Homecoming.
"It shows off an exciting array of events to entertain and educate people about Scotland and its heritage and I'm sure the guide will encourage people to get out and about in our area to see it for themselves."
Copies of the guide are being made available at locations across Aberdeen City and Shire, including VisitScotland visitor information centres, branches of WH Smith and council offices including libraries.
The Press and Journal and Evening Express store in Aberdeen, Cruden Bay Gift Shop, Cruden Bay Golf Club's professional shop, Strachans of Inverurie, Grampian Transport Museum in Alford, Duff House in Banff and Macduff Marine Aquarium will also be stocking the publication.
Proceeds from the sale of the guide will help charities provide services to people across Aberdeen City and Shire.
Every day 10 families are told that their child has cancer. CLIC Sargent is the only charity that offers them all round care and support.
Sarah Farquhar, CLIC Sargent Fundraising Manager for Grampian and Shetland, said: "This is a fantastic publication for both people living in Aberdeen City and Shire and tourists coming to the area on holiday. It is packed full of lots of interesting information.
"I am delighted that CLIC Sargent will be receiving half of the proceeds of the sale of Haste Ye Back, which will allow us to continue our vital work and help children and young people affected by cancer."
Georgette Cobban, Senior Co-ordinator for Home-Start Aberdeen said: "I am so pleased that the work of Home-Start Aberdeen volunteers is being recognised. This year our group of 70 volunteers have worked with approximately 130 families. These volunteers offer emotional and practical support to families facing a variety of difficulties. These are local people offering others a helping hand.
"The Haste Ye Back publication is a very attractive and informative guide. I am so delighted that that Home-Start Aberdeen will receive a share of the proceeds enabling us to continue recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to help local families."
