Elsulaimaniya Trust
  About Us

History

The Elsulaimaniya Trust became a registered charity in Scotland in November 2009  (Registered Scottish Charity No: SC041063).

Illiteracy is widely spreading between the  villagers of the River Nile state. A low percentage of children are currently completing their primary education.  One survey among local school pupils revealed that 96% were infected by Schistosomiasis, a water borne parasitic condition that is known to cause terminal liver disease.

The policy of the trust is to provide its services by working with local community organisations to achieve their objectives. Initially we are partnering with the Abdul Rahim Elyas Charitable Association for Development (ACAD).  This is an organisation registered with the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs in the Republic of Sudan.  This status would be the nearest equivalent in Sudan to a registered charity in Scotland.

These efforts started by initiating small agricultural schemes in the area and went further to the establishment of the first primary school and medical treatment unit in 1969.  More recently,  Abdul Rahim Elyas Charitable Association for Development (ACAD) initiated small local development projects and training programmes.
