Aberdeen Inter Faith (AIF) is a voluntary group with members from many of Aberdeen's faith communities - as well as people of no particular faith
Anyone who welcomes dialogue and cooperation between people of faith is welcome to take part in our activities and to share their ideas and experience with us.
Since our first meeting in 1993, AIF has been holding regular public meetings on subjects as varied as sacred art and violence in the name of religion - as well as activities such as visits to places of worship and civic events. AIF is also a member of the Scottish Inter-faith Council (SIFC) which is a national 'umbrella' body representing most of Scotland's faith communities and local inter faith groups.
You can find out more about the meaning of 'inter faith' on the link to your left, but it is important to understand that inter faith is not about the merging of faiths or the blurring of the significant differences that do exist between the faiths. We might say that we should recognise and appreciate difference while emphasising what we, as people of faith, share in common: a belief in a deeper purpose to life, a strong moral code and a respect for all creation.
Quote:
"Nothing has proved harder in the history of civilisation than to see God, or good, or human dignity in those whose language is not mine, whose skin is a different colour, whose faith is not my faith and whose truth is not my truth"
Rabbi Jonathan Sacks, The Dignity of Difference
