Aberdeen Greenspace Strategy 2007-2012 

Summary

The Strategy outlines the direction, focus and aspirations for Aberdeen Grewnspace Trust Limited (previously know as Aberdeen Countryside Project) over the next three years (2007-2012).

It sets out the existing partnerships that will need to be fostered and the new ones that will need to be developed.

Over the next 3 years, Aberdeen Greenspace will;

  • focus on working with communities and partners to initiate and deliver innovative greenspace projects with priority given to the regeneration and at risk areas within the city;
  • seek to engage with Aberdeen City Council in the delivery of high quality greenspace through the Greenspace Forum, Community
  • Planning and the Countryside Management Service;
  • join Aberdeen City Council and the Forestry Commission in the delivery of the Woods in and around Towns initiative in Aberdeen;
  • work with Aberdeen City Council and others to assist in the planning and if possible the delivery of the Core Path Network;
  • work with SNH and North East LBAP to deliver biodiversity objectives within the city;
  • seek to work with health professionals to deliver health goals on greenspace projects;
  • seek to engage with developers, the City Council, Community Scotland and Housing Associations to promote the delivery of high quality greenspace as an integral part of new housing developments;
  • work with others to deliver high quality environmental education/interpretation projects;
  • investigate joint working and cost saving opportunities with Aberdeen Forward.

Governance:

Over the next three years, Aberdeen Greenspace will:

  • seek to develop sources of income, other than the Landfill Tax;
  • review the Membership of the Board and Management Group to ensure a wide range of relevant interests and skills are represented;
  • review the relevance of its current name and consider re-launching under a new name that more accurately conveys the work it undertakes;
  • review and report on the Volunteer Programme;
  • develop a Reserves Policy;
