Formation of a Steering Group to Set up a Local Practitioners Forum
As a result of the 21st Century Review ‘Changing Lives’, representatives from the Scottish Executive met on Monday 5th March 2007, with a small group of Aberdeen City Council interested staff, to discuss the setting up of a local practitioners forum. Involvement in the local and national Practitioners Forums is supported by ACC’s Chief Social Work Officer.
The information and weblinks below will explain the current situation regarding the formation of the National Practitioners Forum (NPF) and provide the context for the Local Practitioners Forum (LPF).
There are two key events being organised by the Scottish Executive to take forward the development of Practitioners Forums in 2007. The dates for these are 26th March 2007 and a date in June 2007, which has still to be set.
They are looking to form a Local Practitioners Forum within Aberdeen City, to consist of practitioners from the voluntary organisations, the local authority, the independent sector and the private sector. Accordingly, expressions of interest in forming a steering group, are being sought from anyone engaged in direct work with service users in Aberdeen City, including Occupational Therapists.
The idea would be to hold an inaugural steering group meeting after the event of 26th March 2007 and before the National Conference in June 2007. If you as a practitioner, or anyone you know, would be interested in becoming involved, please contact Elaine Shepherd, with your name and contact details.
Further information can be obtained from Belinda Cook on (01224) 306877 or Maureen Ross on (01224) 346340 or e-mail maross@aberdeencity.gov.uk
They believe the development of a Local Practitioners Forum to be a crucial step in making the voice of practitioners heard in the development of local and national policy.
